New construction using aluminum-framed structural bents. Aluminum is an interesting material to design with; welding affects strength and aluminum must be separated from steel and concrete to avoid corrosion. Its principal advantage is it's lightweight. My first aluminum design experience was to design the inspection and catwalk system for the giant Diamond-Vision screen for the old Kingdome. One of the more interesting aluminum design projects I was fortunate to work on was a rotating brow and catwalk system for the submarine base at Bangor. No pictures of that as Bangor is a restricted area when it comes to pictures.
